Demand for IT executives up 3% in May, says EL Consult
Monday, 16 June 2008

According to the latest EL Consult Executive Index, things are looking up in the IT jobs market. The index found the demand for IT executives was up 3% in the last month.

"Most advertising for business sector positions were to be found in print advertising but the government sector went to the Internet to advertise its new position," their press release says. "Overall, web-based advertising was stronger than print-based advertising over the month.

"The ACT government and business sectors were strong, as were the Victorian and South Australian markets. New South Wales was the stand-out decliner, losing value in both the print and web advertising versions."

So it looks like mixed messages all around from the job market at the mo.

This doesn't suprise me

NSW will be hit hardest by the financial troubles because Sydney is a global city (sorry Melbourne but your importance ends once you leave our shores).

Canberra will always be protected to some degree as you either work in Gov't, work for a company supporting Gov't, or work for a company supporting a company supporting Gov't. As such all the time people pay tax, Canberra has an artifical buffer protecting it from downturns.
